  • Overview

    The Director of Nursing’s primary job is to plan, organize, develop and direct the overall operation of our Nursing Service Department. This is in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern our facility, and as may be directed by management, to ensure that the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times. 


    The Director of Nursing will also serve as a liaison to the Hospital team.


    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Work with Executive Director in achieving all goals of the unit
    • Set and monitor achievement of goals and objectives for the nursing department consistent with established philosophy and standards of practice
    • Recruit and hire a sufficient number of qualified nursing staff to deliver efficient resident care in accordance with the established staffing plan
    • Establish, implement, and continually update competency/skills checklists for nursing staff
    • Prepare and assure adherence to an annual operating budget for the nursing department
    • Maintain and guide the implementation of current policies and procedures, which reflect adherence to corporate and external regulatory guidelines
    • Assure compliance with resident rights policies and work to resolve resident grievances
    • Establish and monitor compliance with an effective medical record documentation system
    • Establish and maintain productive lines of communication with residents and families, internal staff and external community
    • Prepare and submit reports on nursing department operations, as required
    • Actively participate in the quality improvement process for the unit
    • Participate in and/or provide in service education sessions
    • Attend and participate in unit meetings, as required
    • Schedule, direct and document regular meetings with nursing staff to assure effective communication
    • Access continuing education opportunities appropriate to discipline and responsibilities
    • Assist surveyors and inspectors to facilitate regulatory compliance
    • Initiate studies to evaluate effectiveness of nursing services with regard to objectives and costs; develop the department budget, monitor expenses and stay within budget
    • Plan and facilitate meetings and committees to address resident care issues; proactively handle survey and/or standards of care issues
    • Ensure that adequate nursing staff are available, based on facility and census requirements
    • Ensure admission and discharge processes reflect patient centered experience



    • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a valid Florida state RN license 
    • 3 years as a Director of Nursing, Assistant Director of Nursing or equivalent supervisory nursing experience
    • Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations pertaining to facility functions
    • Knowledge of accreditation standard and compliance requirements
    • Skills to allow for  planning, organizing and directing the functions for the nursing department, case management and admissions team
    • Knowledge of and ability to demonstrate skills related to management, planning and budgeting



    • Bachelor’s of Nursing
    • Skilled Nursing Experience


    Hours: Monday - Friday, Weekends as Needed
